In the week where we saw yet another version of WordPress 6.4 introduced, we also saw the need for yet another version. Exciting times 😅. What can I say, it keeps us off the streets, right? Right.
Moving on the the main news, but not before a mention of this week’s sponsor 20i. Hope you enjoy it!

🗞️ Within WordPress News
Here’s what I saw happening this past week:
- Team Woo has been very active extending lots of different aspects of WooCommerce in the last couple of weeks. There’s a two things I want to highlight for you:
- James Kemp shared an upcoming feature for WooCommerce that will offer “Coming Soon” and “Live” modes. “Coming Soon” mode is for the entire website, and would primarily be used by fresh installs.
- Jacklyn shared a completely overhauled documentation site, and I love the improvements made here. They put a lot of energy in this and it shows!
- Nenad Conić was on the Do the Woo podcast talking about database optimization and monitoring tools.
I wish he had mentioned Scanfully as well, but it’s a great listen anyways. And, in all fairness, we only decided on a launch date for the Early Access today. So… 🤷🏼♂️
And just to stay in WooCommerce mode, here’s another fun tutorial by Kathy, who is decidedly awesome:
- Timi Wahalahti published a blog post highlighting WordPress plugins that make him happy.
My favorite from that list is Query Monitor, but my favorite new plugin (for me) is One Time Login.
- Ever since Joost is no longer a Yoaster, he’s been quietly, well not really, but you know, rolling out new content, and solutions. I mentioned one of them in last week’s edition, but I feel obligated to mention two again:
- Use Github Actions to keep your WordPress plugin healthy. I think the title speaks for itself.
- He’s also done research into tag usage in a bunch of WordPress sites. And they confirm why there’s a need for, and why he’s built a solution called Fewer Tags.
BTW, can you believe it’s already been two years since Yoast was sold? Time 🚀, doesn’t it?!
- Learn how to add starter page and page templates to your theme. You know, just like TT4 does.
- Adam Zieliński keeps pumping new features for WordPress Playground. This week’s addition is Multi-site Mode 😍
- Al-Mamun Talukder shared an interesting tutorial on how to make ACF fields conditional.
Never had the need, but this makes me want to create the need. It is a very cool method.
🚀 Performance & Security
- Danny Albeck shared Releem. It’s a MySQL Performance Tuning and Monitoring Tool. Great alternative to MySQLTuner!
- If you’ve not read this article on the real attack vector responsible for 60% of hacked WordPress sites in 2023, you should. This is part of your educational budget for this week.
My favorite performance optimizing tools in WordPress:
- The best Front-end optimization plugin
- Cleaning up WordPress + script manager
- Cloud based performance optimizations
🔆 Within WordPress Highlight
- Lisa Sabin Wilson shared an upcoming update to the one book I’d recommend anyone wanting to deep-dive into WordPress development. The book is call WordPres All-in-One for Dummies. It’s to be released today, and it includes everything up until WordPress 6.4.
Highly recommend it.
Some of my favorite WordPress tools:
- The most versatile and accessible form solution for WordPress
- LocalWP, the easiest to use local dev solution
💡 Interesting Finds
- I asked the following on X: “What did you use to build websites before WordPress“? The answers are a proper trip down memory lane.
🎁 Bonus
I’ve got a whole bunch of podcasts lined for you all, so you’ll just have to be patient for any news there. But, I did publish a short list of my Performance debugging stack. If there’s a desire to have me list out all the things, just let me know.
That’s it for this week’s edition of Within WordPress. Thanks for reading!
