PHP CodeSniffer News + Handy WP CLI Commands

As you’re reading this, I’m driving to Madrid to be at the ​State of the Word​ this coming Monday. It’ll be the last WordPress event I’ll go to this year, and I’m looking forward to catching up with friends and hopefully get some sunshine.

But of course, me driving right now doesn’t mean there’s no ​Inside WordPress​ for you all.

Here’s what I saw happening this past week:

• Let’s start with the most important one. PHP CodeSniffer needs your attention. It’s got a new home, but that’s not ​why you need to click this link​.

Seriously, ​click it​ if you’re using PHP in your work in any shape or form.

• Ron Huereca is not the only one who’s a fan of ​GenerateBlocks​. One of the better Block enhancing suites IMO. But he is one of few that created a little plugin that ​enhances GenerateBlocks even further​.

• Pascal wrote about why all of you, if you’re creating plugins for WordPress that is, ​should start using Plugin Check now​.

• Katie Keith also did a ​post mortem about the Barns2 Black Friday sales​. As always with Katie, it’s a good read with lots of interesting conclusions.

• Brian Coords shared an interesting fact about having to ​opt in for non-Block themes to only load the assets (CSS and JS) for the blocks​ that are present on the page, instead of loading them site wide.

🚀 Performance

• Chrome ​is shipping​ <img sizes=”auto”> support 🥳 For lazy-loaded images with srcset, this allows the browser to use the layout width of the image in order to select the source url from the srcset. ​Example​.

This is going to save sooo many resources. Someone’s going to do the calculations at one point and it’s going to be mind blowing 🤯.

• Sybre Waaijer, fellow Dutchman, released very neat plugin that displays page generation time. It’s called ​GenTime​.
