PHP CodeSniffer News + Handy WP CLI Commands

If you’re serious about building better WordPress sites, this is the newsletter for you.

As you’re reading this, I’m driving to Madrid to be at the State of the Word this coming Monday. It’ll be the last WordPress event I’ll go to this year, and I’m looking forward to catching up with friends and hopefully get some sunshine.

But of course, me driving right now doesn’t mean there’s no Inside WordPress for you all.

Let’s get to it!

Inside WordPress is sponsored by: Hostinger

🗞️ Inside WordPress News

Here’s what I saw happening this past week:

  • Let’s start with the most important one. PHP CodeSniffer needs your attention. It’s got a new home, but that’s not why you need to click this link.

Seriously, click it if you’re using PHP in your work in any shape or form.

I published a couple of WP CLI commands you should check out:

And one that you can use to any of these 👆🏻in bulk:

🚀 Performance

  • Chrome is shipping <img sizes=”auto”> support 🥳 For lazy-loaded images with srcset, this allows the browser to use the layout width of the image in order to select the source url from the srcset. Example.

This is going to save sooo many resources. Someone’s going to do the calculations at one point and it’s going to be mind blowing 🤯.

  • Sybre Waaijer, fellow Dutchman, released very neat plugin that displays page generation time. It’s called GenTime.

My favorite performance optimizing tools in WordPress:

🔆 Inside WordPress Highlight

  • Optimizing your WordPress site just for Web Core Vitals is like optimizing only the aerodynamics of a race car. It’s needed, but it’s just one element of why a race car can go fast. And not just in a straight line. What should you do?

Some of my favorite WordPress tools:

💡 Interesting Finds

Go on, boost your productivity!

  • I know there are plenty of WordPress “indiehackers” reading this newsletter, and it is in that context I’m sharing this article on IndieHacker on how to hit $10k MRR faster.

🎁 Bonus

Here’s something I read that I found interesting enough so maybe you do too? It’s about what Google Consent Mode is doing, but not telling.
